Chongqing—Mr. Gu took us to a renowned tourist site in Jiangjin: The Ladder of Love. In 2006, this place didn’t have access to electricity, so Mr. Gu and his colleagues carried the cables on their shoulders and delivered electricity to the mountaintop. The Ladder of Love originally stemmed from the story about the pure and steadfast love between Liu Guojiang and Xu Chaoqing, two elderly people. However, after spending two days with Mr. Gu and his wife, I found their story equally touching.
