Kind Chongqing Innkeeper Offers Free Stay for Those In Need

By FENG, XIAOLOU|Oct 14,2025

ChongqingIn the heart of Shapingba District, Chongqing, a modest hotel run by 36-year-old Zhou Yue is becoming a beacon of hope for down-on-their-luck strangers. With 13 years in the hospitality industry, Zhou's hotel offers 35 clean, fully equipped rooms. Its true distinction lies in its owner's compassionate policy of providing free or heavily discounted lodging to those who are in trouble.

Zhou's motivation is deeply personal. At just two years old, he suffered a severe accidental burn. After being sent home by a local hospital that deemed his case hopeless, villagers noticed he was still breathing. They collectively donated funds to rush him to Chongqing Southwest Hospital, saving his life. This childhood experience planted a seed of kindness in his heart.

Now, Zhou is determined to pay that kindness forward. He frequently encounters people who have come to Chongqing seeking work but have exhausted their funds. "If I meet people in trouble like them," Zhou says, "I shall give them a free stay for one night or just charge them half the price." His rooms, complete with basic amenities, a balcony, and even cooking facilities for some, offer more than just shelter; they offer dignity and a chance to regroup.

His employees, like Liu Xiaorong, a person with a disability whom he also supports, see his character daily. "He is a very good person. If you have difficulties, he is always willing to help."

Zhou Yue believes that everyone faces challenges sometimes. A single act of assistance can create a ripple effect. "If you get help at that time," he reflects, "you will be willing to return the kindness to others in difficulties."
