By YAN DENG|Nov 11,2025

Chongqing - On November 8, the 2025 Luminous Flare Light & Tech Art Festival opened at the Chongqing Opening Port Heritage Park, transforming the historic riverside site into a dazzling stage of light, art, and technology.

"The flow of light allows us to rediscover, rewrite, and rethink the landscape of Chongqing. It has become a powerful medium connecting citizens' emotions and shaping the city's identity," said Jiao Xingtai, President of the Sichuan Fine Arts Institute, at the opening ceremony.

"This year's works integrate data visualization, AI-generated imagery, and brainwave interaction, while also exploring themes of ecological ethics, local memory, and self-perception. We aim to let rational technology and emotional art reflect each other within the same field of light," Jiao added.

Under the theme "Luminous Flare: Art Makes Life Better," this year's festival continues to expand its "Art + Technology" vision, featuring sections such as the Tech Art Video Exhibition, Interactive Installation Showcase, and TouchDesigner community workshops.

More than 20 light and installation artworks are displayed across the park's terraced hillsides, vividly bringing the festival's concept to life: "using the city as a canvas and light as a language."

One highlight is Heartscape 2.0, an interactive installation that transforms visitors' brainwaves into flowing digital paintings.

"We hope to help visitors rediscover the Chinese artistic concept of 'qi yun sheng dong' — the living spirit within art," explained one of the artists. As visitors wear an EEG headpiece, their brainwave data generates dynamic particles that move across the screen, forming a living, breathing artwork shaped by their own emotional state.

Another crowd favorite, Skipping Rope II, evokes nostalgia through simple yet striking beams of white light outlining the shape of a skipping apple figure.

"The light pulses make the apple appear to jump rope, and visitors can even step in to play along — returning to their childhood for a moment," said creator Bao Weiyue.

The festival takes place from November 8 to November 13, with free public admission from 6:00 PM to 9:30 PM daily at Chongqing Opening Port Heritage Park, located on Nanbin Road.
