Hefei - Volkswagen Group China on Wednesday announced that it had delivered China Electronic Architecture (CEA), the group's first zonal electronic architecture, at the end of 2025.

Having taken 18 months from concept to production, this project marks the fastest timeline the German carmaker has ever achieved for an all-new electronic architecture.

Jointly developed by Volkswagen Group China Technology Company, CARIAD China and XPENG, CEA reduces the number of electronic control units by around 30 percent, significantly streamlining system complexity.

It can provide a stable foundation for advanced AI cockpit functions, China-specific driver assistance systems and full-vehicle over-the-air updates.

"China Electronic Architecture allows us to bring software-driven innovation to market at competitive cost and speed, across electric vehicles, hybrids and combustion models. This is how we scale intelligent connected vehicles in China, combining local speed with Volkswagen DNA," said Ralf Brandstaetter, chairman and CEO of Volkswagen Group China.

According to Volkswagen Group China, it has successfully launched its first CEA-based model, the VW ID. UNYX 07, at its plant in Hefei, capital of east China's Anhui Province. The group will present four further vehicles from all Volkswagen brand joint ventures via the new architecture in 2026.

Also this year, Volkswagen Group will launch more than 20 fully electric, plug-in hybrid and range-extended models in the Chinese market.
