Historic Chongqing Street Hosts "Small Reunion" Banquet

By FENG, XIAOLOU|Feb 14,2026

Chongqing - On Feb 11, the historic red-brick slopes of Longmenhao Old Street were filled with the enticing aroma of Sichuan pepper and the warmth of community spirit. Under the theme of "360 Bowls of Chongqing Flavors," a special "Longmen Banquet · Small Reunion" was held to celebrate Xiao Nian (the Minor New Year), turning one of the city's most iconic landmarks into a grand outdoor dining room.

Culinary Heritage on the Cliffside

The event centered around the "360 Bowls of Chongqing Flavors", a curated selection of Chongqing most authentic culinary masterpieces as a tourist brand. More than ten banquet tables were set along the historic street, inviting local merchants, neighborhood residents, and lucky tourists to sit together. The menu featured signature dishes that represent the soul of Chongqing's food culture, paired with local favorites like Meijian plum wine and Tianfu Cola.

As guests dined, the air was filled with the sounds of Guzheng music and the dramatic flair of Sichuan Opera face-changing performances. The event was a sensory journey through Chongqing's past and present, set against the backdrop of the Yangtze River.

"Chopping Wood" for Fortune

Beyond the dining table, the event revived ancient New Year customs with a playful twist. The "Cai Fu Zi You" (Wealth and Freedom) station allowed visitors to experience traditional wood-chopping. In Chinese, the word for "wood/firewood" (Cai) is a homophone for "wealth," making the act of gathering wood a symbolic gesture of bringing fortune into the home for the coming year. Nearby, calligraphers helped guests write "Fu" (blessing) characters, bridging the gap between generations through ink and brush.

The "City Living Room"

The "Longmen Banquet" is part of Longmenhaos broader mission to become a "City Living Room." By integrating culture, commerce, and community, the old street is evolving from a mere tourist attraction into a vital space where urban memories are preserved.

"This isn't just about the food," noted one participant while enjoying a bowl of traditional stew. "It's about the 'Renqingwei'the human touch. Sitting here with neighbors and strangers alike makes the city feel like one big family." As the sun set over the river, the lanterns of Longmenhao glowed a bit brighter, signaling the start of a New Year season rooted in flavor and friendship.
