Chinese FM Holds Phone Talks with Omani, Iranian, French Counterparts on Middle East Situation

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, on Monday held phone talks with counterparts of several countries on the ongoing situation in the Middle East.

-- With Omani Foreign Minister Sayyid Badr bin Hamad Al Busaidi

Wang said on that the urgent priority concerning the current situation in the Middle East is to immediately halt military operations and prevent the conflict from further spilling over.

He also said that the spillover of war does not serve the fundamental and long-term interests of the Gulf countries.

-- With Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi

Wang said that China values the traditional friendship between China and Iran and supports Iran in safeguarding its sovereignty, security, territorial integrity and national dignity.

He also said that China believes that under the current severe and complex situation, Iran can maintain social stability and pay attention to reasonable concerns of its neighboring countries.

-- With French Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot

Wang said that major countries must not use their military advantage to launch arbitrary attacks against other nations.

He also noted that the world should not revert to the law of the jungle, and China hopes that France will work with China to promote de-escalation of tensions in the Middle East and jointly uphold the basic norms of international relations.
