Why China ⑧ | Amazing Online Even More Impressive in Real Life

By JIAXIN TAN|Mar 12,2026

Chongqing As China's 2026 "Two Sessions" get underway, international voices are sharing their perspectives on the country through the #WhyChina campaign launched by the Western China International Communication Organization. The online initiative, hosted on global social media platforms such as Facebook and X, invites foreign scholars, global key opinion leaders (KOLs), community opinion leaders (COLs), and overseas netizens to share their experiences with China.

After years of watching from afar, French blogger Sophie finally turned her long-held curiosity into reality—and discovered that the real China is even more stunning than the screen could ever show.

For a long time, China sat at the top of Sophie's travel bucket list. She was captivated by the surreal landscapes, the futuristic technology, and the cyberpunk aesthetics of its metropolises. Yet, despite the pull, hesitation lingered. The language barrier, the cultural unfamiliarity, and the sheer scale of difference made the destination feel both alluring and intimidating.

A few months ago, Sophie made the leap. She booked her ticket and visited China for the first time—and the experience exceeded every expectation. "Honestly, I absolutely loved it," Sophie shared in her video. "What you see on social media is already amazing, but in reality, it's even more impressive."

One of the most unexpected surprises? The people. Sophie noted that while locals may initially seem reserved, a simple smile can instantly brighten their faces—a warmth she says added depth to her journey through China's landscapes and cityscapes.

Now, Sophie is already planning her second trip. Her message to fellow travelers is simple: "Just go. You might be surprised how much you will love it." Her story adds to a growing chorus of international visitors discovering that China's beauty, hospitality, and innovation are best experienced firsthand.
