Chongqing - The Singapore University of Social Sciences (SUSS) announced two new initiatives in China on March 10, launching the SUSS Success Academy in Chongqing in partnership with Raffles Young Academy (RYA) and confirming the establishment of a satellite office in Shenyang, the capital city of Liaoning Province.

SUSS, one of Singapore's six public universities, said the Chongqing academy will become part of its broader regional network in China, linking with existing presences in Beijing and Shenzhen. The university has focused its strategy on lifelong learning, applied education, and social impact, and said the new academy is intended to deepen its engagement with western China.

SUSS President Tan Tai Yong said the Chongqing academy will provide applied and practice-based education aligned with local needs, and SUSS will work closely with local universities, industry groups, and community partners in western and northeastern China

According to the university, the academy will serve as a cooperation hub connecting academic institutions and industry in China and Singapore. Planned programs include interdisciplinary global learning courses, social impact entrepreneurship incubation, student exchanges, and industry-based practice programs. The academy will also support cooperation between SUSS and Chinese universities and institutions to co-develop customized courses and projects for both students and corporate managers.

Li Xunfu, deputy director of the Chongqing Municipal Commission of Commerce, said the launch marked a new step in Chongqing-Singapore cooperation in higher education and lifelong learning. He noted that over the past decade, the China-Singapore (Chongqing) Demonstration Initiative on Strategic Connectivity, or CCI, has generated 347 government and commercial projects worth 26 billion yuan (about 3.76 billion U.S. dollars).

He added that the initiative has expanded beyond finance, aviation, logistics, and information technology into fields such as technology, healthcare, culture, and education.

RYA, SUSS's local partner in Chongqing, said it would support the academy through its local networks and industry connections. Samuel Ng, executive chairman of RYA, described Chongqing as a gateway to western China and a major transport, logistics, and industrial hub, making it well-suited to industry-linked educational programs.

Beyond Chongqing, SUSS said it will officially open its Shenyang satellite office on March 11 to support projects in Liaoning Province and surrounding areas in northeastern China.

Since 2023, SUSS has established Success Academies in Beijing, Shenzhen, Ho Chi Minh City, Bangkok, Kuala Lumpur, Jakarta, Manila, and Mumbai. With Chongqing and Shenyang now added to that network, the university said it is refining its regional approach by aligning more closely with local development needs across China.
