"Friendly Letters" To Raptors From China-US Teens

By XUELIN MUXINGCHEN YUE|Mar 17,2026

Chongqing -  Did you know that besides the well-known name “8DMagical City”, Chongqing is also known as the "City of Eagles"? Situated along one of the world's five major raptor migration routes, the city witnesses hundreds of thousands of these birds soaring overhead each year. This spring, that natural phenomenon became a bridge for exchange and communication between students from China and the United States.

On March 12, students from China and the United States gathered at Nanshan Mountain to create visual warnings on glass barriers, protecting the region's vital raptor migration route as part of the 'Eagle City · China-US Youth Urban Exploration' event. They explored how the city's smart monitoring platform leverages equipment such as infrared cameras and bird voiceprint monitors combined with the Internet of Things, cloud computing, and AI technology, to record over 50,000 bird voiceprint data entries annually and has observed nearly 100 bird species and learned about local efforts to protect this migratory path for these travelers. They also participated in the bird-protection activity, jointly creating bird-safe window decals and applying them to the glass fences at the Golden Eagle observation point.

For the raptors migrating overhead, these patterns serve as visible warnings—friendly signals that help prevent deadly collisions. And for the young people from both sides of the Pacific, they represented something deeper: a shared commitment to nature that transcends borders.
