This April, a 4-year-old girl from Luodian County who suffered a corneal rupture after accidentally stabbing her eye with scissors was rushed aboard the G244 high-speed train to Chongqing, where China Railway Chengdu Group coordinated train staff, station personnel, and a hospital to create a lifesaving emergency corridor for urgent surgery.
Luodian County in Guizhou is about 600 km from Chongqing, with road travel taking 7–9 hours through mountainous terrain, while high-speed rail provides a much faster option amid limited local medical care.
Shortly after the G244 departed Guiyang East Station at 18:50, Conductor Liu Hua received an urgent call from the girl’s father. He said an initial diagnosis showed a corneal rupture and that the child needed immediate surgery at the Army Medical Center of Chongqing—any delay could cause irreversible damage to her eyesight. Liu immediately activated the train’s emergency response plan.
Liu contacted the railway dispatch office, detailed the injury, and asked Chongqing West Station to prepare for a rapid hospital transfer. He also coordinated with the hospital to confirm the ambulance parking spot and the transfer route from the platform. Thanks to efficient coordination from the railway dispatch department, Chongqing West Station opened an emergency green corridor in advance and assigned staff to meet the train.
"I have already arranged everything with Chongqing West Station and the hospital’s 120 emergency service. Staff and medics will meet you when the train arrives. The ambulance is waiting at the green channel, and we will take your child to the hospital immediately," Liu said, reassuring the anxious parent and updating him on the rescue progress in real time. The girl’s timely treatment was made possible by the railway staff’s careful coordination, leaving no detail unattended.
The G244 arrived on time at Chongqing West Station at 21:17, where station staff and onboard medics were already waiting. The girl received immediate emergency care on the platform and, within four minutes, was transferred via the lifesaving emergency corridor to a pre-positioned ambulance and rushed to the hospital for surgery. The smooth and efficient process bought critical time for the operation.
As of now, the girl has successfully undergone surgery and is receiving follow-up rehabilitation at the hospital, with her condition steadily improving.
