The 5th Global Media Innovation Forum Kicks Off in Chongqing: Global Leaders Chart Media’s Future in the Intelligent Era

Chongqing - On June 10th, the 5th Global Media Innovation Forum officially opened today in the southwestern metropolis of Chongqing. Co-hosted by China Media Group (CMG) and the Chongqing Municipal People's Government, the high-profile annual event brings together approximately 300 representatives, including international media executives, tech giants, and academic leaders from around the world. Under the theme "Upholding and Redefining: The Mission of Media in the Intelligent Age," participants have gathered to engage in deep dialogues regarding media transformation and ethical responsibility in an era increasingly dominated by intelligent technologies.

The forum, initiated by CMG in 2022, marks its first expansion into China’s western region, underscoring Chongqing's rapid development in the digital economy, intelligent manufacturing, and international communication capabilities.

Prior to today's opening ceremony, international delegates participated in immersive site visits across four themed routes from June 8 to 9. Guests toured landmarks such as the Ceres super factory, the Dazu Rock Carvings, and the Yongchuan Technology Studio, experiencing firsthand the city's blend of ancient cultural heritage and modern technological prowess.

"Chongqing is not only a city; it is an experience," noted Alex Mauricio Baldvieso Vargas, a Bolivian social media influencer with seven million followers. He emphasized the growing challenge of digital misinformation, stating, "Fake news is growing, and it's very important to share the correct information, also for young people on social media."

This sentiment regarding journalistic integrity in the AI era was echoed by Leszek Slazek, Founder and Editor-in-Chief of Chiny24.com. "Despite all those technologies, despite all the changes, we should focus on the information and on the truth," Slazek remarked, urging global media to inform audiences objectively to foster a less biased and less confrontational world.

The forum features three core sections: a plenary session, breakout sessions, and outreach activities. During the morning plenary session, organizers are set to release seven major technological and regional innovation outcomes alongside a collaborative forum initiative. The afternoon breakout session, titled "Voices of the Global South," will specifically address South-South perspectives on rebuilding inclusion, fairness, and justice amid the intelligent wave.

By showcasing modern audio-visual milestones and hosting high-level cultural events—including a dedicated drone light show—the forum serves as a vital bridge. It not only elevates Chongqing's international profile as a model of Chinese modernization but also empowers global and local media sectors to collectively navigate the challenges and opportunities of the intelligent era.
