Chongqing - The first all-English international broadcast program in Chongqing, the 229th special episode of "Let's Meet," titled “Why This American Creator Couldn't Stop Shopping at a Chongqing Wholesale Market”, jointly produced by the Western China International Communication Organization and Chongqing Satellite TV, will be aired on both domestic and international media on July 25.
Brad is an American content creator currently living in Shenzhen with his family. Through social media, he has long documented his everyday life in China—from living costs and public transportation to education, safety, and family life—sharing his observations from an international perspective. His authentic and objective storytelling has attracted millions of viewers worldwide. He was also invited to appear in a CNBC documentary on the cost of living in China, helping more international audiences gain a clearer picture of life in contemporary China.
Brad’s Chongqing journey begins with a lively market adventure. Guided by Alex, he steps into a local wholesale market, tries his hand at bargaining, shops for clothes and toys, and gets a feel for the city’s vibrant and welcoming everyday life through conversations with vendors and residents. As he moves through Chongqing’s layered streets and alleys, Brad also experiences the city’s distinctive “8D” terrain up close and sees how modern urban life and old neighborhoods coexist within the same space. In this episode, follow Brad and Alex as they shop, eat, and roam the city on a surprise-filled Chongqing adventure.
Accompanied by his friend Julia, Brad continues exploring Chongqing, beginning at Luohan Temple in the city center, where a centuries-old Luohan Temple stands in striking contrast to modern skyscrapers. He then wanders through busy streets, samples authentic Chongqing noodles, takes on the city’s fiery flavors, and traces the history of the mountain city along the tiered steps of Shibati. Here, old neighborhoods, dramatic terrain, and a modern metropolis intertwine, making Brad feel as though he is standing in the past and the future at once. After a full day of exploring, Brad visits some of Chongqing’s most iconic night-view landmarks and experiences another side of this “cyber mountain city.” From Qiansimen Bridge and the glittering nightscape where the Yangtze and Jialing rivers meet—images that have gone viral countless times on social media—to a high-altitude view over the city’s sea of lights, Brad compares the Chongqing he has seen online with the city before his eyes and discovers why its viral attractions continue to draw visitors from around the world.
Before leaving Chongqing, Brad sits down with Alex for an interview, looking back on several days of urban exploration and sharing what impressed him most. From the city’s “yellow Ferraris”—its yellow taxis—and hot pot restaurants built in former air-raid shelters to Shibati, Luohan Temple, Liziba, and Hongya Cave, Brad sees a city that combines rapid modernization with a rich urban texture shaped by history and tradition. Through Brad’s words and camera, this episode shows how an American creator understands Chongqing and presents the city to audiences around the world.
"Let's Meet" airs every Wednesday and Saturday at 6 PM on Chongqing Satellite TV.
