Tibetan People's Music of Love | Western China's Melody Documentary EP1

By FENG, XIAOLOUSHIHAN YANG|Jul 27,2026

Chongqing In the summer of 2025, a collaborative production team from Western China International Communication Organization and Danish music producer Rasmus Hedegaard ventured deep into nine provinces and regions across Western China, immersing themselves in the daily lives of ten ethnic groups, all in pursuit of creating the documentary series Western China's Melody. By infusing the soul of ancient folk songs into the pulse of modern electronic beats, they bring to life a musical journey that allows the world to hear the most authentic and warm heartbeat of Western China. Starting today, July 27, 2026, the 10-episode documentary series officially premieres, with one episode released each day.

For the premiere, we head to Xizang — a fitting start to this musical odyssey. On the snow-capped plateau, the subtle Layi love songs are soulful confessions across mountains and seas. Danish music producer Hedegaard journeys to Lhasa, Xizang, to listen to the heartfelt duets of a Tibetan musical couple. As ancient high-pitched singing intertwines with Nordic electronic beats, love needs no translation. This is a romantic cross-cultural expedition.
