Chongqing - In the summer of 2025, a collaborative production team from the Western China International Communication Organization and Danish music producer Rasmus Hedegaard ventured deep into nine provinces and regions across Western China, immersing themselves in the daily lives of ten ethnic groups in pursuit of creating the documentary series Western China's Melody. By infusing the soul of ancient folk songs with the pulse of modern electronic beats, the series brings to life a musical journey that allows the world to hear the most authentic and heartfelt rhythms of Western China.
In Chongqing’s karst wonderland, the Boatman’s Chant was once a roaring cry for survival against treacherous rapids. Hedegaard traveled to Wulong to witness a powerful fusion of the Boatman’s Chant and hardcore rap. With voices serving as oars across centuries, Eastern and Western singers connect amid breathtaking natural landscapes, creating a stirring anthem of resilience and reverence for nature.
