Hangzhou - Chinese tech company Alibaba on Monday unveiled its latest large language model, Qwen3.8-Max, marking a major upgrade in its Qwen series with advanced capabilities in coding, real-life work and research.

The model features 2.4 trillion parameters and supports a context window of up to 1 million tokens, said the company.

According to third-party evaluation platform Arena, Qwen models rank among the world's top-tier large language models.

Qwen3.8-Max demonstrates proficiency in autonomous coding and long-horizon execution, operating independently over extended periods without human intervention, according to Alibaba. Tasked with creating a self-evolving agent framework from scratch, Qwen3.8-Max established an engineering loop that synthesized user feedback, community best practices, and self-test data.

By continuously iterating through code generation, testing, previewing, and log analysis, it produced "oh-my-cli," a self-evolving agent framework that has been fully open-sourced on GitHub.

Chinese tech firms have recently advanced their artificial intelligence (AI) model development. In July, the AI startup Moonshot AI released the model Kimi K3, which features 2.8 trillion parameters, making it the largest-parameter open-source AI model globally, the company said.

Experts noted a growing number of Chinese open-source large models are moving from individual breakthroughs to collective advances, offering new approaches to the global development of AI.
