Chongqing - Chongqing is putting 2.2 billion yuan (about 330 million U.S. dollars) into motorcycle projects this year, as rising demand and success on international racetracks spur manufacturers to expand production, modernize factories and strengthen local supply chains.
ZXMOTO, gaining recognition through international racing victories, plans to break ground on a new factory by the end of 2026, according to the Chongqing Municipal Development and Reform Commission.

The project, located in Liangjiang New Area, will have an annual production capacity of 500,000 motorcycles. With an estimated investment of 750 million yuan, it will include research and development facilities, testing centers, and production lines designed to support large-scale manufacturing and future product upgrades.
The expansion comes as ZXMOTO sees demand rise following its international racing success. Overseas orders in April alone were equivalent to the company's total overseas orders for the previous year. Its monthly production exceeded 10,000 motorcycles in June.
The new facility is intended to support higher production volumes while incorporating intelligent manufacturing and facilities for showcasing premium motorcycles. The company aims to build a globally competitive motorcycle brand.
ZXMOTO's expansion is part of a broader effort to strengthen Chongqing's motorcycle industry. In the first nine months of 2026, the city completed 2.2 billion yuan in investment in key motorcycle projects, with the aim of developing what local authorities call a "one-hour motorcycle industry circle."
The term refers to a network of manufacturers and component suppliers located within roughly an hour's travel of one another, allowing companies to coordinate production and obtain parts more efficiently.
In Jiangjin District, Zongben's motorcycle powertrain and electric motorcycle production base has completed construction and entered operation. The 600-million-yuan project includes production lines for motorcycle assemblies and electric motorcycles. Once operating at full capacity, it is expected to produce 300,000 three-wheel motorcycle engines and 60,000 complete vehicles annually, generating an estimated 800 million yuan in annual output value.
In Dazu District, the second phase of TAILG's new-energy electric vehicle industrial park is nearing completion. The 450-million-yuan project was 97% complete at the time of the latest update, with equipment installation and commissioning halfway finished. It is designed for annual production of 1.5 million vehicles, including 850,000 electric motorcycles, 100,000 electric mopeds and 550,000 electric bicycles.
Other projects are expanding the region's component supply and manufacturing capacity.
In Beibei District, a 500-million-yuan intelligent manufacturing demonstration base for automotive and motorcycle components is under construction. It is designed to produce 2 million aluminum-alloy motorcycle wheels annually.
Nearby, the completed Yuantai Motorcycle research and manufacturing headquarters has an annual capacity of 100,000 frames, 260,000 engines and 260,000 complete motorcycles. In Bishan District, a 300-million-yuan motorcycle and core-component project has already begun production, with capacity for 300,000 motorcycles annually.
Chongqing produced 8.842 million motorcycles in the first nine months of 2026, maintaining its position as China's largest motorcycle-producing city, according to the municipal development and reform commission.
"After more than 40 years of development, the Chongqing motorcycle industry circle has taken shape," a commission official said.
