Chongqing- The work report of Chongqing Municipal Government was officially released on January 17, 2022, and featured numerous highlights such as practical measures aimed at maintaining growth, promoting development, accelerating construction of the Chengdu Chongqing economic circle, the continued expansion of high-level opening-up, and improvements to the livelihoods of people.
The year 2022 is key to the 14th Five Year Plan, as the Chongqing Municipal Government continues to promote work vital to ensure stable economic operations and safeguard the social environment for national peace and public security.
The main objectives of economic and social development are envisioned for 2022 as follows;
While ensuring stable economic operations, the construction of the Chengdu-Chongqing economic circle will continue in tandem with coordinated development of the ‘one zone and two clusters,’ while an optimized layout for regional economic development will proceed onwards.
Specifically, the preparation of major plans will be promoted through cooperation with national ministries and commissions over the questions of land space, environmental protection, a Bashu cultural tourism corridor for the economic circle, coordination with Sichuan to complete plans for water security, and construction of a new destination for international consumption.
The expansion of high-level opening-up will continue for enhanced integration into the domestic and international dual cycles. As a key hub in this dual cycle, Chongqing should integrate into the Belt and Road Initiative and Yangtze River economic belt in order to accelerate construction into an open inland highland.
In addition, the Government Work Report promotes urban upgrades and improved functions to improve the livelihoods of people in 2022 effectively. In the action plan for urban renewal, public spaces will be further optimized, the ‘Two Rivers and Four Banks’ landscape will see continued development, and projects such as the Ciqikou riverside area and Huaxi River Wetland Park will be completed.
Long-term management and regulation mechanisms to stabilize land and housing prices will be fully implemented in terms of real estate regulation. The long-term rental housing market will be developed, and the construction of affordable housing will be promoted to solve housing difficulties encountered by new citizens, young people, and other groups.
