On January 20, 2022, the list of China's Top 10 Most Influential Cities of Evening Economy 2021 was announced. Chongqing ranked the first, the third time for it to top the list. Moreover, Jiangbei District, Yuzhong District, and Yongchuan District also stood out from their counterparts, selected into the list of China's Top 20 Influential Districts and Counties of Nighttime Economy 2021.

Over the past year, many Chinese cities focused on the night-time economy to drive for urban industrial transformation and urban function enhancement, to turn into "sleepless cities." Many are working to devote greater energy to developing this field as China's nighttime economy enters a new development phase.

Despite COVID-19, the night-time economy still witnesses continuous development, and its size scales up. Upon the situation is better, major cities are expected to welcome another round of industrial expansion.

The nighttime economy is a vital part of the urban economy and a key index to evaluate a city's economic vitality.

Chongqing features a distinctive climate and natural landscape, which constitute advantages for developing the night-time economy. Data shows that about 60% of the city's urban consumption occurred at night in recent years.

Chongqing has been shaping a "Chongqing-featured international sleepless city," with efforts to offer supporting facilities, issue favorable policies, and optimize the business environment to bolster the nighttime economy.

It prioritizes festival-based brand creation. For instance, the city has held four Night Market Cultural Festival editions and two of the Chongqing Nightlife Festival. Shaping the city brand of "Sleepless Chongqing," it tries to showcase the unique charm of the nighttime economy.

By now, the night economy has created an eco-system in the city, incorporating night tours, night views, night shows, night reading, night markets, night recreation, and night healthcare, based on cluster areas.

In the next five years, Chongqing plans to accelerate the development of the nighttime economy by enhancing nighttime economy planning, building diverse destinations for nighttime consumption, developing a wide range of business formats for nightlife, upgrading night-time consumption brands, stimulating innovation, upgrading the nighttime economy, and perfecting supporting facilities.
