Chongqing- The annual sessions of the national legislature and top political advisory are key events on the Chinese political calendar that take place around the same time and are collectively known as the "Two Sessions," simply translated as Lianghui in Chinese.

Although they were held at different times of the year with multiple sessions in the early days, they now work on five-year cycles with a yearly session every March.

The fifth session of the 13th National People's Congress (NPC) will start on March 5. And that of the 13th National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) will convene on March 4. The year 2023 will see the first annual session of the 14th NPC and CPPCC.

Thousands of national lawmakers and political advisors will gather for the sessions that cover every aspect of China's development and well-being of the people, involving the economy, trade, diplomacy, the environment, and more.

The Government Work Report and a draft for the 2022 National Economic and Social Development Plan will be deliberated and approved during the proceedings.

We can say the "Two Sessions" are like an observation window on the development of China and embody the vitality of socialist democracy with Chinese characteristics as they discuss the needs and concerns of everyday citizens.
