It will take over 50 minutes to Qianjiang and over 3 hours to Changsha from Chongqing by high-speed trains. On November. 22, the Chongqing-Qianjiang Section of Chongqing-Hunan High-speed Railway and Chongqing East Railway Station officially started construction. In addition, it estimates that the high-speed railway will complete and open to traffic in 2024. It will be more convenient for the round trip from Downtown Chongqing to Nanchuan, Wulong, Pengshui, and Qianjiang.

Chongqing-Qianjiang Section of Chongqing-Hunan High-Speed Railway

According to Chongqing Municipal Transportation Bureau, the Chongqing-Qianjiang Section of Chongqing-Hunan High-speed Railway plays an important role in Chongqing. It is a significant part of the Xiamen-Chongqing Passenger Transport Channel of “Four Vertical and Four Horizontal” network in the Medium-and Long-term Railway Network Plan. Meanwhile, it is a crucial infrastructure connecting the Maritime Silk Road with the Yangtze River Economic Belt. Additionally, it is the main channel for high-speed passenger transport communication between Chengdu-Chongqing Urban Agglomeration and Changsha-Zhuzhou-Xiangtan Urban Agglomeration and Western Taiwan Straits Economic Zone.

The Chongqing-Qianjiang Section of the Chongqing-Hunan High-speed Railway starts from Chongqing Railway Station (Caiyuanba Railway Station) in Yuzhong District. In addition, the railway will pass Yuzhong, Nan’an, Ba’nan, Nanchuan, Wulong, and Pengshui, and ends in Qianjiang. Eight stations locate along the whole line, including Chongqing Station, Chongqing East Railway Station, Huimin Station of Ba’nan, Nanchuan North Railway Station, Shuijiang North Railway Station, Wulong South Railway Station, Pengshui South Railway Station, and Qianjiang Station.

In the meantime, Chongqing East Railway Station is also under construction at the same time. According to the Chongqing Municipal Transportation Bureau, Chongqing East Railway Station covers more than 100,000 m² in total. Moreover, it includes several lines including Chongqing-Hunan High-speed Railway, Chongqing-Wanzhou High-speed Railway, the railway line connecting Chongqing-Wanzhou Intercity Railway and Chongqing-Lichuan Railway with Chongqing East Railway Station, the railway line from Jiulongpo Station to Chongqing East Railway Station of Chongqing-Kunming High-speed Railway and Eastern Loop Line of Chongqing Railway Hub.

It is worth mentioning that Chongqing East Railway Station will be built into an extra-large railway comprehensive transportation hub with railway transportation as its core, realizing zero-distance transfer of various modes of transportation such as railway, urban light rail trains, buses, social vehicles, and taxis.

Chongqing East Railway Station plans to introduce and set up stations for the extension lines of Line 6, Line 8, Line 18 and Line 27 of rail transit in a bid to undertake most of the passenger traffic evacuation.

Furthermore, Chongqing East Railway Station will form a seamless hub cluster between Eastern Loop Line of Chongqing Railway Hub and Jiangbei Airport, Chongqing North Railway Station, Chongqing West Railway Station, and Chongqing Railway Station, which creates a more balanced, efficient and flexible Chongqing Hub. It strongly supports Chongqing’s role in the national railway hub and as the “connecting point of the Belt and Road Initiative and the Yangtze River Economic Belt”.
