By MIN DU|Aug 20,2022

Chongqing - Kate and Lightning are 4-year-old police dogs. A Springer Spaniel and a Malinois, they work at Chongqing North Railway Station doing daily explosion searches, station security patrols, and tracing and rescue work for criminal cases. Kate and Lightning have their security guard shifts scheduled based on weather conditions.

"Smell it, Kate!" Zeng Yong, her handler, orders Kate to sniff the designated goods. It is Kate's third summer security posting. In one day, she can inspect nearly 600 luggage items for safety. As for Lightning, known as a workaholic, he is so passionate about the daily tasks that the moment he puts on his working uniform and necklace, he will get to work.

It often takes at least 3-6 months to train a police dog. At the end of the training, these "candidates" need to take the test. Only those who pass the test successfully can graduate to police work.

Moreover, daily physical and skill training is essential for these "police officers" to maintain good health and perform effective work. Because of the recent continuous high temperatures, the dog trainers have adjusted the training time to the morning or late afternoon when it is cooler.

To ensure the safety of police dogs working in such hot weather, police often prepare sufficient water, anti-heat medicine, watermelons, and other refreshments for their canine colleagues. Yesterday, Kate and Lightning got their new ice vest.
