Chongqing - On September 10, Seven youth artists brought the exhibition "Echo of the Fugue" to the ArtDepot Center of Chongqing Liangjiang New Area. The exhibition is open for free until December 10.

"Fugue," which means "chase and fly" in Latin, is also a genre of polyphonic music. Classical music's most prominent characteristic is a counterpoint: flow and chase. Different parts imitate and answer each other.

This coincides with the individual narrative produced by the concrete and virtual images surging through the works in the exhibition. They are not only unified but also constantly build the dialogue between the artist and himself.

This exhibition highlights this characteristic in the painting of young artists. Digital screens and virtual technologies have changed millennials' views of information and images.

The way of image construction is separated from the entity dimension, and those virtual images coexist parallel with people and objects in the picture.

The characters and scenes depicted in these works are specious rather than factual. The color, light, space, and shape are divided and reconstructed by multiple layers, and the painting method is no longer limited to the traditional realistic or abstract way, which represents the complex self-perception of millennials in the process of growing up.

The works of the seven young artists in this exhibition have different styles. Take the works of contemporary artist Hou Jiannan: He fills the picture with the help of a spray brush, presenting the effect of expansion and three dimensions, and the image has a sense of stretching. The works of another artist, Sun Yukun, are very delicate. Most of his works show a ceramic-like light feel, and the polishing process can be seen between brush strokes. What makes artist Liu Zhicheng's work special is how he paints it, presenting a friction shadow effect.
