The State Council's Joint Prevention and Control Mechanism on December 7 released the latest ten-point guideline, including allowing asymptomatic or mild cases to isolate at home rather than in designated quarantine facilities. Test results and health codes still need to be shown to enter care homes, welfare institutes, hospitals, kindergartens, and primary and high schools.

In addition, the guideline read that people who travel to other regions of China would no longer be tested for COVID-19 upon arrival, nor would they be checked for nucleic acid test results or health codes during their trip.

"After nearly a month's efforts, the city's new daily infections have fallen to that level of mid-November, and the epidemic situation has been improving," said Li Pan, deputy director of Chongqing Municipal Health Commission, at a press conference on December 7.

People are no longer required to present their nucleic acid test results when entering public places, including commercial areas, shopping malls, supermarkets, pharmacies, theaters, museums, and libraries, according to Chongqing's latest measures on COVID-19 epidemic control measures released on December 7.

In addition, the 48-hour negative nucleic acid test result is no longer required for cross-regional and cross-provincial travel, and the result is no longer required for passengers traveling from Chongqing or returning to Chongqing by air, high-speed railway, and train.

Li said each district would reserve some nucleic acid testing sites for residents if required. He also reminded the public that there is no need to take a nucleic acid test if it is unnecessary. Asymptomatic cases and people with mild symptoms can quarantine at home while strengthening their health monitoring.

To boost immunization among the elderly, the Geriatric Hospital of Chongqing established a green channel for the elderly over 80 years old, including temporary vaccination points, mobile vans, and door-to-door service.

On December 8, the city reported 155 newly confirmed local cases and 3006 new asymptomatic carriers, according to figures released by Chongqing Municipal Health Commission.
