Chongqing - On the morning of January 12, the first session of the Sixth Chongqing Municipal Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC Chongqing)  opened at the Chongqing Great Hall of the People.

On behalf of the Standing Committee of the Fifth Chongqing Municipal Committee of the CPPCC, Chen Guiyun, executive chairman of the conference, reported on the proposal work of the Fifth Chongqing Municipal Committee of the CPPCC.

During the Fifth Chongqing Municipal Committee of the CPPCC, CPPCC members, CPPCC participants and special committees submitted a total of 7,596 proposals, of which 6,237 were put on file after examination, and 5,286 were handed over after being merged. At present, all referral proposals have been completed on time.

Reacting to people's concerns, proposals were ranging from installing elevators on pedestrian bridges to strengthening the supervision of the ten-year fishing ban on the Yangtze River, from integrating the logistics development in the Chengdu-Chongqing economic circle to deepening the construction of the New International Land-Sea Trade Corridor (ILSTC), where Chongqing further plays a role of logistics and operation organization center.

Those proposals mainly focused on seven major areas, including promoting high-quality development, creating high-quality life, pioneering opening-up in inland China, building a city of beautiful mountains and rivers, the construction of Chengdu-Chongqing economic circle, cultural prosperity and development, as well as social harmony and stability.

Improving the Effectiveness of Constructing the New Chongqing

Yuan Jiajun, secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Chongqing Municipal Committee, said that the implementation of major measures has achieved results in strengthening supervision.

Yuan said that Chongqing should focus on the overall planning of epidemic prevention and control and economic and social development, overall development and security, highlighting projects to promote investment and attract foreign investment.

The city should implement manufacturing quality and efficiency improvement actions, state-owned enterprise reform and efficiency enhancement actions, major risk prevention and resolution actions, and actions to benefit the people and provide them with preferential services.

At the same time, the city should improve the mechanism of the whole chain of democratic supervision, carry out special supervision, innovate forms and carriers, and enhance the organic connection and mutual coordination between democratic supervision and other types of supervision.

Yuan emphasized turning the process of democratic supervision into a process of discovering, studying, and solving problems, and improving the effectiveness of the construction of the new Chongqing.

Adhering to Democratic Consultation on Major Issues

Yuan added, adhering to democratic consultation on major issues is an inherent requirement of the system of multiparty cooperation and political consultation under the leadership of the CPC.

In the future, the CPC Chongqing Municipal Committee will, as always, care about and support people's work, further strengthen the building of consultative democracy, listen to everyone's opinions and suggestions on all aspects of work, and form decent conditions for residents to participate in the discussion and the handling of municipal affairs and perform their functions.

Representatives of foreign consular offices in Chongqing and Chengdu were invited to observe the opening ceremony.

Others attended the conference as observers involve some representatives of new social classes, representatives of the non-public sector of the economy, presidents of the Chongqing non-local chamber of business, representatives of the Chongqing Western Returned Scholars Association (Chinese Overseas-Educated Scholars Association), specially invited Taiwan overseas Chinese, representatives of Chongqing nationality working in other places, representatives who come to Chongqing for investment and business, and representatives from Hong Kong and Macao special administrative regions working in Chongqing.
