Chongqing - “We have approved the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi), promising to reduce carbon emissions by 50% by 2030 and achieve net zero value chain emissions globally by 2050,” said Gavin Tjong, the managing director of Cushman & Wakefield in West China.

The construction sector is one of China's three major energy consumption areas. The carbon consumption of building construction, including raw materials and energy used throughout the supply chain, accounts for about one-fifth of China’s carbon emissions.

Green building certification is currently being promoted in China and worldwide. 

As an international consulting organization, Tjong mentioned that Cushman & Wakefield has committed to promoting the green building certification system for many years, providing Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) and WELL building standard certification services for a few assets.

In January, the Chongqing Municipal People’s Government and the People’s Government of Sichuan Province jointly issued the Action Plan for Promoting the Market Integration of the Chengdu-Chongqing economic circle.

“This means that there will be unified taxation, law, and court services in the Chengdu-Chongqing area, which will reduce entrance fees, costs, and time for us,” Tjong added.

Expanding the Use of Recycled Aluminum

Southwest Aluminium (Group) Co., Ltd. has always provided a strong guarantee for constructing China’s space station. Over 60% of the key aluminum materials, such as skins and forged rings on spacecraft and rockets, come from Southwest Aluminium. 

“We have some aircraft manufacturers in Chengdu who produce some aircraft parts for Airbus and Boeing,” said Zhang Ning, the general manager of the import and export division of Southwest Aluminum (Group) Co., Ltd. “The Chengdu-Chongqing economic circle is a huge market for many enterprises like Southwest Aluminium.”

Southwest Aluminium keeps expanding its use of recycled aluminum to accelerate the green transformation.

Zhang said that the company continues optimizing and improving the acceptance standards and the operation process specifications of external aluminum scrap, ensuring that the quality of ingot metallurgy is under control.

In addition, the construction of 200,000 tons of recycled aluminum production line will be accelerated to improve the aluminum scrap pretreatment and smelting capacity.

On this basis, the costs of the raw materials purchased and transportation were reduced by 3.2 million yuan(about USD 462,120), the carbon dioxide emissions were reduced by 2,683 tons, and the metal loss was decreased by 2.8 million yuan (about USD 404,361).
