Chongqing Cross-Border Highway Regular Lorries Opening New Routes to South Asia

By YUTING CHEN|May 05,2023

Chongqing - “Whether it is for the construction of the ILSTC or the development of the Chongqing open corridor, the Chongqing Cross-Border Highway Regular Lorry is an indispensable logistics method,” said Liu Wei, director of the Operation Organization Center of ILSTC.

The Chongqing Cross-Border Highway Regular Lorry of the New International Land-Sea Trade Corridor (ILSTC) has dispatched 13,366 trips and shipped 33,415 20-foot equivalent units (TEUs), with a total value of 8.3 billion yuan (about USD 1.2 billion), and the average departure frequency exceeds ten trips per day in the past seven years.

More flexible transportation routes

“We currently use the whole process of cold chain transportation, which is about a week faster than before,” said the relevant person in charge of Fengjie County. “Chongqing Cross-Border Highway Regular Lorry can better guarantee the freshness and quality of agricultural products such as fruits.”

On April 25th, three cross-border highway regular lorries loaded with fresh navel oranges departed from Fengjie and arrived in Hanoi, Vietnam, in just two days.

“We can arrange departed schedules according to customer needs, realize placing the delivery order and shipping the goods on the same day,” said the relevant person in charge of Chongqing-ASEAN International Logistics Co., Ltd. (commonly referred to as ASEAN logistics company).

At present, the highest daily frequency of cross-border highway regular lorries has reached 31. At the same time, it does not need to spend too much time in ports and other stations when a cross-border highway standard lorry crosses the border. The adjustment of transportation routes is more flexible.

More lorries and types of goods

“In the past few years, we have been expanding the routes of cross-border highway regular lorry,” said the relevant person in charge of the ASEAN logistics company. “In 2022, we will open new routes in the direction of South Asia, India, and Nepal.”

The continuous enrichment of routes has significantly increased the number of cross-border highway regular lorries and the types of goods.

Among them, the number of lorries has increased from the initial 100 lorries per year to over 3,000 lorries per year; the types of goods have expanded from a single machine to motorcycles and their accessories, chemicals, daily necessities, hardware, etc.

At present, the Chongqing Cross-Border Highway Regular Lorry is also carrying out international railway-highway combined transport business with the China Railway  Express and the China-Laos Railway. A total of 211 freight trips have been shipped, with a value of 143 million yuan (about USD 20.67 million).

“We plan to operate more than 3,600 freight trips this year and develop more than two new routes,” said the relevant person in charge of the ASEAN logistics company.

The ASEAN logistics company will focus on informatization, intelligence, and infrastructure construction to make Chongqing Cross-Border Highway Regular Lorry transportation safer, more convenient, and more efficient.
