Chongqing - In June 2021, the Chongqing 1949 Grand Theater, a unique and dynamic performance venue in Ciqikou, Shapingba District, opened its doors. The venue, designed specifically for the revolution-themed stage play Chongqing·1949, stands as the first large-scale live-action theater of its kind in Chongqing.

The Chongqing 1949 Grand Theater, redefining traditional theatrical norms, was designed with the versatility to meet the needs of various repertoires and to host fixed-act tourism-related plays. As the world's largest single indoor dynamic, immersive theater, it offers an unprecedented theatrical experience to a capacity of 1,500 attendees, with a total construction cost of approximately 800 million yuan (about 111.57 million U.S. dollars).

Set on the eve of Chongqing's liberation in 1949, the play depicts the harrowing story of several Chinese communists imprisoned in Bai Mansion and Refuse Pit, facing their enemy to the very end.

Three years of meticulous planning and execution have resulted in a truly extraordinary, multi-dimensional immersive rotating stage. The stage and audience seating can rotate a full 360 degrees, enveloping spectators in the narrative at pivotal moments. Advanced technology enhances the ambiance with mesmerizing light and shadow play, intricate stage design, and three-dimensional surround sound, providing a naked-eye 3D dynamic panoramic audio-visual experience.

Despite the historical and revolutionary focus, the play has attracted a predominantly young audience since its debut. Approximately 70% of the spectators are under age 35, with over half identifying as part of the "post-00s" and "post-90s" generations. The stage play's powerful themes of faith and hope, combined with its technological spectacle, make it an unmissable event for visitors to Chongqing.
