Chongqing - As the digital transformation era drives the demand for intelligent technology-related skills, Chinese universities are broadening their academic offerings to support the country's economic and social development objectives.
Chongqing University, Southwest University, and Chongqing University of Technology have recently added 48 new undergraduate majors, emphasizing intelligence-related disciplines.
The new majors, including supply chain management, energy storage science and engineering, intelligent vehicle engineering, intelligent manufacturing engineering, and big data management and application, demonstrate the universities' commitment to cultivating talents who can contribute to the nation's intelligence construction – a crucial initiative for economic progress.
By integrating these majors, Chongqing's universities align their academic programs with the city's ambitious aim of becoming a technological innovation hub and a "smart city." The objective is to produce graduates equipped with the skills necessary to propel Chongqing's growth in an era dominated by intelligent systems and digitalization.
For example, Chongqing University's new major in supply chain management responds to the national industry chain's strategic demand for supply chain development. The program provides unique specializations in supply chain operation optimization, artificial intelligence in the supply chain, and finance and supply chain. Rigorous training will ensure that graduates are primed to meet industry standards.

With Chongqing's plans to establish a world-class industrial cluster for intelligent connected vehicles and new energy vehicles, Chongqing University of Posts and Telecommunications has introduced the intelligent vehicle engineering major for 2023. This program aims to train students in areas such as intelligent vehicle electronics, driverless technology, control systems, and road management systems. Graduates will be prepared to take on roles ranging from intelligent vehicle system technology application to high-tech R&D in intelligent vehicles.
Accounting for Chongqing's unique mountainous landscape, Chongqing Jiaotong University has launched the intelligent transportation major. This program aims to combine theoretical knowledge with practical industry experience to train top-tier talent in areas such as intelligent transportation planning and design, system integration and software development, and intelligent transport research and development, among others.
These new majors demonstrate Chinese universities' dedication to serving national strategies, regional economic and social needs, and industry development requirements. By strengthening ties between academia and industry, these institutions are fostering an enhanced integration of industry-university-research and facilitating the transformation of cutting-edge achievements.
Recognizing talent as a vital resource, Chinese universities are proactively equipping their graduates with the skills required to excel in a progressively intelligent and digital world.
