Representing the CPC Chongqing Municipal Committee and the Chongqing Municipal People's Government, Yuan Jiajun and Hu Henghua extended a warm welcome to the delegation. Yuan Jiajun underscored that the consensus reached between President Xi Jinping and Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong in March set a new strategic direction for the development of China-Singapore relations. He pointed out that the China-Singapore (Chongqing) Demonstration Initiative on Strategic Connectivity (CCI) holds broad prospects for deepening bilateral relations and bolstering cooperation between Western China and ASEAN, asserting its significance for the future.
As the only centrally-administered municipality in central and western China, Chongqing has unique opportunities arising from national strategies such as developing China's western region in the new era, Belt and Road cooperation, and the Yangtze River Economic Belt development. With its solid foundations, Chongqing possesses substantial potential for future growth within China's modernization agenda.
Currently, Chongqing is implementing the 20th CPC National Congress ethos, viewing the Chengdu-Chongqing economic circle construction as the number one project and a crucial driver for the city's growth. The city focuses on building the New International Land-Sea Trade Corridor, accelerating its digital transformation, and striving to establish a modern Chongqing in all aspects.
Given the strong strategic alignment and deep connections between Chongqing and Singapore, Chongqing is eager to work with Singapore to action the important consensus reached by the leaders of both nations and to uphold high standards in executing the CCI. This includes developing more effective tools and vehicles, improving cooperation levels in key initiative areas, and expanding the scope of collaborative fields. The goal is to foster more robust cooperation in the digital economy and trade, enhancing the CCI's role as a guiding and leading exemplar, thereby achieving wider connectivity and contributing to the all-around, high-quality future-oriented China-Singapore partnership.
Ambassador Peter Tan expressed gratitude for the warm welcome, acknowledging the CCI's importance in promoting a future-oriented partnership between Singapore and China. Noting the strong foundation and promising outlook for cooperation between Singapore and Chongqing, he highlighted the encouraging results achieved through their collaboration on priority areas, bolstering Singapore's enterprises' confidence to invest in Chongqing. At the same time, more Chongqing enterprises are viewing Singapore as a crucial destination for international expansion. Singapore stands ready to enhance its cooperation with Chongqing under the CCI framework, seeking to contribute further to advancing bilateral relations.
