Rise in Cross-border Highway Shuttle Bus Use Marks Prosperous First Half of 2023

By ZHAN CHEN|Jul 31,2023

Chongqing - Recently, a fully-loaded cross-border highway shuttle bus carrying Chongqing-made machinery set off along the New International Land-sea Trade Corridor (ILSTC).

Within a day, the shuttle reached Youyi Port, one of Guangxi's largest land ports in southern China. After using the green channel for expedited customs clearance, it was en route to Vietnam in just six hours, significantly reducing transit time.

Zhao Ye, an official with the Chongqing Customs District, said this accomplishment hinged on the rapid customs clearance for road port vehicles facilitated by the shared green channel at the Guangxi Port.

This crucial initiative was launched collaboratively by customs in Chongqing and Nanning, Guangxi, following the signing of a memorandum of understanding.

Over the years, the Chongqing Customs District has cultivated collaboration among regional customs along the ILSTC, optimizing customs supervision to enhance the ILSTC's efficiency and quality.

Recent data shows that during the first half of this year, the import and export value of locations along the ILSTC reached about 350 billion yuan (48.91 billion U.S. dollars). This constitutes a year-on-year increase of 40%.

Simultaneously, the import and export volume escalated to about 73 million tons, marking a year-on-year increase of 16%. These figures exemplify the corridor's healthy development and its role in boosting Western China's foreign trade.

Zeng Yi, General Manager of Chongqing Highway Transportation ASEAN International Logistics Co., Ltd., noted the rising popularity of cross-border highway shuttle buses as a primary logistics method.

This surge can be attributed to the supportive measures and assistance from customs, leading to efficient customs clearance and flexible organization.

The increasing popularity of cross-border highway buses reflects the ILSTC's rapid development in recent years. The first half of this year saw 4,510 cross-border rail-sea intermodal trains on the ILSTC route, a 9% year-on-year increase.

In addition, cross-border highway transportation carried 1.2027 million vehicles, an increase of 84.18%. Meanwhile, international railway trains saw a surge in operations, with a rise of 18.51% to reach 4,091 trains.
