Chongqing- On August 15, Chongqing Bishan Comprehensive Smart Zero-Carbon Power Plant BYD Photovoltaic Storage Project reached full-capacity operation. This powerhouse is now China's largest independent user-side energy storage project with an annual peak power capacity of approximately 7 million KWH.

Designed to provide the Chongqing power grid with a maximum peak capacity of 67 megawatts, the operation will alleviate the pressure on the power supply, especially during the intense demands of summer.
"The project is a mammoth undertaking comprising three distinct parts, rooftop photovoltaic power generation, electrochemical energy storage, and production line energy recovery," said Chen Yongbo, assistant general manager of State Grid Chongqing Bishan Electric Power Company.
He continued that a whopping 17,616 photovoltaic panels sprawl was installed on the rooftop of the BYD plant over an estimated 100,000 square meters, which will instantly convert sunlight into electricity for enterprise production.
Surplus power generated from these photovoltaic panels can be stored within the energy storage station, acting as a giant charging treasure.
By channeling electricity to the enterprise during the day and allowing for grid charging during nighttime, the project curtails the BYD plant's electricity costs and relieves the strain on the power grid during peak periods.

The Chongqing Bishan Project is one of three pivotal projects led by the State Power Investment Chongqing Corporation Limited. The other two, the Hechuan New Energy Storage Project and the Changshou Comprehensive Smart Zero-Carbon Power Plant Wangbian Project, have also been put into use recently.
Notably, the Hechuan project began operations on July 27 and has established itself as Southwest China's most substantial grid-side independent energy storage project.
The independent grid-side energy storage station functions as a new market entrant, undergoing uniform regulation by dispatch agencies. They provide auxiliary services, such as rapid frequency modulation and deep peak regulation, effectively catering to the power system's varying needs.
The Changshou Project integrates wind power, photovoltaics, and energy storage and relies on the digital platform to combine elements such as the photovoltaic shed, Vehicle to Grid(V2G), intelligent street lights, and intelligent operation to ensure optimal source network load-storage coordination control.
The launch of three ventures has bridged the peak gap of the Chongqing electric power. By augmenting the grid's flexibility and regulatory capacity, these projects have fortified Chongqing's energy security, paving the way for the anticipated realization of Chongqing's region-wide comprehensive smart zero-carbon power plant goal of one million kilowatts.
