The competition emphasized professional domains, including intelligent connected new energy vehicles, next-generation information technology, high-end equipment manufacturing, advanced materials, and more. It featured two distinct tracks: the “Unveiling and Confronting Challenge” and the “Innovation Challenge.”

Since its inception in August of this year, the competition has garnered participation from 1,005 projects (teams) spanning 25 countries and regions. Ultimately, the project titled Research on Non-Invasive Early Screening Technology for Lung Cancer from Chongqing secured the gold award in the “Unveiling and Confronting Challenge” track, while the project High-Performance Flame Retardant Solid-State Lithium Battery from Singapore emerged victorious in the “Innovation Challenge” track.

The project team, which won the gold award for their work on Research on Non-Invasive Early Screening Technology for Lung Cancer, has achieved a significant advancement in the early detection of lung cancer lesions. Their innovative approach has demonstrated the capability to detect such lesions 3-5 years earlier compared to conventional CT scans.

Dr. Xiang Tingxiu, the team leader and Director of the Oncology Laboratory at Chongqing University Cancer Hospital, emphasized the positive impact of participating in the competition. According to Dr. Xiang, the experience facilitated early collaboration between the research team and industry partners, establishing a robust foundation of trust and consensus. This collaborative environment has, in turn, accelerated the translation of their research outcomes into practical applications.

According to Wu Jing, the project leader of Research on Rail Transit Vehicle Health Management and Intelligent Operation and Maintenance System, their project successfully materialized through collaborative translational activities during the competition. Presently, it has been integrated into the operational lines of Chongqing Rail Transit, encompassing Line 1, the north extension of Line 5, and the second phase of Line 9. This innovative approach revolutionizes traditional manual maintenance practices during vehicle overhauls. Through the application of intelligent methods, rail transit vehicles now undergo smart maintenance, markedly enhancing the efficiency of daily maintenance operations for rail transit vehicles.

Currently, more than 55% of the projects in this competition have achieved progress in outcome transformation, assisting enterprises in resolving 201 challenges. A total of 391 projects have been submitted for the Outstanding Achievement Transformation Award, involving a combined social investment of 3.22 billion yuan (about USD 448 million).
