Explore Chongqing Liangping's Ecological Wonders: Wetland, Pomelo Garden, and Fishing Village

Chongqing - On December 21, ten provincial regions launched their joint promotion for Ecological China•Amazing West on international platforms. 

During the day, the media team explored Shuanggui Lake Wetland Park, Liangping Pomelo Garden, and Chuanxi Fishing Village, discovering Liangping's commitment to ecological priority and green development.

Liangping District in Chongqing is Southwest China's first designated "Wetland City," showcasing a model for wetland preservation.

Shuanggui Lake National Wetland Park, spanning nearly 350 hectares, is a prime example of the district's commitment to conservation. The park is home to 283 vertebrate species, which includes a growing number of bird species - from 137 in 2018 to 213 in 2023. Additionally, 27 of these species are under national protection.

You Renyi, a staff member of Liangping District Wetland Protection Center, shared insights into the lake's ecological progress over recent years, including the founding of aythya baeri, anser answer, and chroicocephalus ridibundus

He emphasized the significant and exciting results of their wetland conservation efforts. He stated their ongoing commitment to enhancing Shuanggui Lake's environment, aiming to attract and provide a sanctuary for rare and endangered bird species.

The Liangping Pomelo Garden, spanning 21,000 mu, captivated the interview group with its enormous pomelos. This garden is a key cultivation site for Liangping Pomelo, acknowledged as one of China's top three pomelo varieties.

Zhang Wenhui, head of the Longtan Pomelo Cooperative in Liangping, highlighted their quality-focused agricultural practices. These include annual soil testing and a dedication to natural, ecological cultivation methods, aligning with environmental sustainability and green development strategies.

Furthermore, the group toured the marketing center, discovering various pomelo-based products, such as dried fruits and extracts.

In recent times, Liangping District has concentrated on developing the pomelo industry to boost farmers' incomes and drive rural revitalization. The Liangping Pomelo has become widely recognized, with its by-products becoming household staples.

The journey concluded with a visit to Chuanxi Fishing Village in Lirang Town, Liangping District, renowned for its pristine environment. This village is unique in Chongqing as the only agricultural science and technology park centered on fisheries, and it is recognized as a national 3A-level tourist destination.

The village is home to 3,300 acres of fishponds, producing an impressive 15,000 tons of fresh fish annually, contributing over 150 million yuan in output value.

In recent years, Chuanxi Village has committed to ecological rejuvenation and the development of scenic rural landscapes. Efforts have included initiatives for rural beautification and enhancement, with projects focused on creating a more attractive countryside.

Strategies implemented include the development of small and micro wetlands and the ecological treatment of domestic sewage to enhance the aesthetics of local courtyards. These measures have transformed the village into a picturesque and environmentally sustainable community.
