Chongqing Excels Nationwide in One-Window Immigration System

By ZHAN CHEN|Jan 04,2024

Chongqing - Chongqing's digital police infrastructure, upgraded over time, now features an intelligent command center established by the Chongqing Municipal Public Security Bureau. This hub integrates public security, video surveillance, and mobile policing networks seamlessly, as unveiled in a January 3 press conference.

In 2023, Chongqing introduced eleven measures to promote the high-quality development of the private economy while ensuring economic order. In close collaboration with the procuratorial organ, the Chongqing Municipal Public Security Bureau resolved 1,292 economic cases and referred 2,284 individuals for prosecution.

These actions resulted in the recovery of 2.719 billion yuan (USD 380 million) in economic losses, marking a 36.6% year-on-year increase.

Twelve initiatives have been introduced to improve public convenience and support local businesses. Key services like household transfers, newborn household registration, and household-related certificates are now accessible nationwide, and the process for obtaining ID cards has been streamlined across provinces.

Furthermore, the implementation of regional development strategies has significantly boosted the construction of the inland open highland, particularly in the Sichuan-Chongqing region.

The pending approval and imminent implementation of a 144-hour visa-free transit policy in the region is expected to further enhance connectivity. Notably, Sichuan and Chongqing public security affairs have expanded by adding 71 new items, bringing the total to 115.

Across the local region, implementing a one-window acceptance system and parallel approval for foreign work permits and work-type resident permits has gained recognition as exemplary immigration practices by the State Council.

Moreover, Chongqing police have been working on initiatives aimed at ensuring social security and stability. During special operations, an average of over 15,000 patrols were deployed daily, covering public areas, alleyways, back streets, and places of congregation.

These concerted efforts have yielded significant results, with Chongqing reporting a notable 17% decrease in criminal police cases and a 10.1% drop in public security police cases year-on-year. Notably, the total number of 110 police cases decreased by a substantial 28% year-on-year, including incidents of pickpocketing, theft from vehicles, and motor vehicle theft.
