Industry-Specific Large Models Leading the Way | Insights

By YUTING CHENKENNY DONG|Jul 12,2024

Chongqing - On July 10, at the 2024 Mingyue Lake·π Global Innovation Conference, Deng Zhongliang, an academician of the International Eurasian Academy of Sciences, told Bridging News that large-scale AI models are now trending toward industry-specific applications.

Chongqing, a leader in intelligent automotive and connected vehicle industries, exemplifies this trend. The industry-specific large models meet the needs of an intelligent society and industry, laying the foundation for a future smart economy.

Wide-ranging applications of AI revolutionize industries

Deng discussed that autonomous driving relies on high-precision maps and large models for safe and accurate navigation. Future drones and autonomous vehicles will also depend on these models for route planning.

"So, the development of the low-altitude economy depends on AI support," Deng emphasized. Drones must avoid collisions, ensure safety, and meet service quality requirements. Large models support these needs by rapidly calculating and integrating spatial data, providing millisecond-level responses for safe and efficient flights.

Deng emphasized that large models are essential for flight control processes, such as airway decision-making, collision avoidance, and route planning. He noted that data alone cannot address these complex issues. The foundation of intelligence, and thus the success of unmanned operations, relies on the application of large models.

Furthermore, large models can solve more complex systems and problems. For example, in the medical field, future robot assistants could utilize large models to diagnose patients. When you feel unwell, a robot could analyze your symptoms instead of a doctor using a large model to provide an initial diagnosis and suggest actions.

Service robots could answer health questions and provide preliminary diagnoses even in a hotel. This system would increase accuracy, reduce doctors' workloads, and enhance the efficiency and quality of medical services.

The manufacturing sector fuels AI development with big data

Deng pointed out that Chongqing's strong industrial base and significant role in automotive manufacturing and electronics provide ideal conditions for AI and large model development, laying a solid foundation for the intelligent industry.

Chongqing is renowned for its diverse industrial sectors spanning 41 different categories, including automotive manufacturing, electronics, machinery, chemicals, metallurgy, textiles, pharmaceuticals, food processing, energy production, environmental protection equipment, and more, contributing significantly to the nation's manufacturing and economic landscape.

Deng said Chongqing's industrial base advantage can be combined with AI and large model technologies to promote the development of the intelligent industry. He believes that as an old industrial city, Chongqing's robust computing power and extensive data uniquely position it for competitiveness in AI applications, attracting resources globally.

The construction of the Chengdu-Chongqing Economic Circle also provides foundational support for large models. For example, Chengdu has a huge aircraft manufacturing industry, which can provide a large amount of aircraft manufacturing and aero engine big data and plays a vital role in the construction of large models.

Deng believes Chongqing will lead the intelligence industry, setting a national example. With ample room for large models and big data development, Chongqing aims to sustain its manufacturing leadership.
