Great Wall Motor's Yongchuan Factory Delivers a Vehicle Every 72 Seconds

By HUXIN LUO|Jul 23,2024

Chongqing - Zhang Zhikui, secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Chongqing Yongchuan District Committee, announced at a July 22 press conference that "Yongchuan-made" automobiles can now be directly exported worldwide, including to Southeast Asia, the Middle East, Europe, and the Americas.

Chongqing's Yongchuan District stands out as an industrial powerhouse with notable strengths in the high-tech and manufacturing sectors. Key industries include intelligent connected new energy vehicles, advanced materials, and high-end equipment manufacturing.

The advantages of the Yongchuan Comprehensive Transportation Hub and Inland Open Hub, combined with efforts to upgrade the automotive industry, are accelerating the "Chongqing Vehicles Going Abroad" plan.

Chang Xiaoyong, deputy secretary of the CPC Chongqing Yongchuan District Committee and district mayor of Chongqing Yongchuan District Government, stated that so far, Yongchuan’s shipping volume via the New International Land-Sea Trade Corridor (ILSTC) is among the highest in Chongqing. The China-Europe Railway Express operates regularly, reaching Central Asia in five days and Southeast Asia in as few as six days.

As the starting point of the western line of ILSTC, Yongchuan uses multimodal transportation to expand corridors in three directions: China-Singapore, China-Myanmar, and China-Laos. This approach leverages its riverside hub and railway lines to cut logistics costs and enhance efficiency.

The development of Zhuotuo Port, the first deep-water port at the Yangtze River's entrance into Chongqing, is underway. It aims to enhance capabilities and connect with the Yangtze River Golden Waterway, ILSTC, and the China-Europe Railway Express Western Chongqing hub.

Besides its transportation and open hub advantages, Yongchuan enhances the automotive industry by attracting foreign investment, advancing technology, and strengthening the industrial chain.

By attracting foreign investment, such as establishing the Chinese headquarters and production base of the German company Liebherr in Yongchuan, the district is developing a modern manufacturing cluster, resulting in notable automotive products like the “Great Wall Pao” and “Tank 300.”

The integration of technological and industrial innovations is speeding up the transformation of the traditional automotive industry. For instance, Great Wall Motor’s Chongqing Smart Factory in Yongchuan produces a complete vehicle every 72 seconds, demonstrating the efficiency achieved through technological advancements.

The automotive industry chain is continually improving, with local components accounting for 80% of “Yongchuan-made” new energy motorcycles and over 90% of computer input devices.
