Chongqing—During the 2024 Belt and Road Journalists Forum, Bridging News interviewed Elizabeth Sade, a reporter for Solomon Islands Broadcasting Corporation. Sade, who was visiting Chongqing for the first time, expressed admiration for the city's natural beauty and technological advancements while emphasizing the need for stronger media collaboration between China and the Solomon Islands.
"This is my first time here," Sade said. "What I've seen in the last few days is truly impressive. Chongqing's cultural connections and the green environment are remarkable. The lush greenery around the city is something you don’t see in many parts of the world. This initiative to conserve the environment is crucial, as living in a green environment benefits both people and development."
Regarding media development, Sade noted that while the Solomon Islands are still developing, Chongqing has made significant progress. "Your advancements in technology and the role of journalists are evident," she observed. "This connection is invaluable for us in the Solomon Islands, helping us to boost our work, empower our people, and hold authorities accountable."
Sade also discussed the potential for increased collaboration under the Belt and Road Initiative, emphasizing that despite the distance between China and the Solomon Islands, the initiative has fostered tangible developments, including infrastructure support. "The Pacific Games are a prime example of China's assistance," she said. "We hope for continued strong collaboration and a deeper understanding of this initiative, benefiting both our countries."
Overall, Sade's visit underscores the importance of media and cultural exchanges in strengthening ties between China and the Solomon Islands.
