Low-Carbon Chinese New Year: Western China Takes the Lead

By QIHAI DENG|Oct 16,2024

In 2024, the Western China International Communication Organization launched a "Low-Carbon Wave" on overseas social media in collaboration with cities across Western China. Six provincial regions collectively showcased their commitment to sustainability, reaching an impressive audience of over 30 million overseas followers. Through vibrant images, videos, posters, and live broadcasts, they highlighted the eco-friendly spirit of the New Year.

iChongqing introduced a series of New Year posters titled "Green China Year," featuring initiatives like free public transport in Quanzhou, electronic fireworks in Deyang, and a shift from traditional fireworks displays to light shows in Chongqing. In Gansu, herders embraced electronic appliances, moving away from coal and manure as their primary fuel sources.

iChongqing also shared tweets on overseas platforms like X and Facebook to promote Chongqing's 2024 "Two Rivers, Four Banks" AR light show, inviting accounts from various Western provinces to join in and share their local eco-friendly actions. Together, they showcased a low-carbon celebration of the Chinese New Year to global audiences.
