Chongqing—SAIC Motor MG relaunched its MG ES5 model on January 15. Zhou Xing, General Manager of the SAIC Motor MG Brand Department, emphasized the ES5's advanced battery technology and smart driving features.

The MG ES5, SAIC Motor MG's third new energy vehicle after the MG EZS and MG 4 EV, marks a significant step in the company's global shift toward electrification and smart technologies.

During the launch event, Zhou stated that the MG ES5 is a compact electric SUV designed for global markets. It integrates cutting-edge battery and intelligent driving assistance technologies, setting a benchmark within the SAIC Motor.

Zhou introduced the MG ES5's exclusive LBS (Lying Battery Structure) battery pack, a technology developed by SAIC Motor. The MG ES5 adopts the LBS cube battery configuration, positioning the cells horizontally for improved heat dissipation and safety.

The battery offers top-tier dust and waterproof protection and has been rigorously tested for extreme temperatures. Motor vehicles using this battery have exceeded 300,000 global deliveries without any self-ignition incidents.

For the first time, SAIC Motor MG has equipped the MG ES5 with the MG Pilot system, powered by Horizon Robotics' Journey chip. This system integrates eight functions, including intelligent cruise and lane-keeping assistance.

To address the issue of motion sickness in electric vehicles, the MG ES5 also features SAIC Motor's innovative motion sickness alleviation system, which effectively reduces discomfort by 30%.

SAIC Motor MG is a key player in China's automobile export market. According to the China Automotive Technology & Research Center (CATARC), SAIC Motor MG exported 460,942 units in 2024, ranking second behind Chery Group, which exported 881,541 units.

Despite the negative impact of the EU's anti-subsidy measures, SAIC Motor MG achieved a remarkable sales performance in Europe, surpassing 240,000 units.

The official price range for the MG ES5 is between 119,600 yuan (USD 16323) and 136,900 yuan. Zhou emphasized that the compact pure electric SUV market is growing rapidly and is projected to increase by over 20% in 2024. The MG ES5 is strategically positioned to seize opportunities in this expanding market.
