By FENG, XIAOLOU|Mar 19,2025

Chongqing - Hechuan Half Marathon 2025 will kick off on March 30 in Hechuan District, Chongqing, according to Wednesday's press conference.

As a key initiative under the "Healthy China, Chongqing Action" campaign, this annual sports event marks its third edition following the successful races in 2023 and 2024. Organized to meet the A1 standards of the Chinese Athletics Association, the marathon promises to be a grand celebration of sports, culture, and natural beauty.

The event features two categories: the half marathon (21.0975 km) and a public health run (4.2 km). With registration for the half marathon now closed, the race has attracted participants from 30 provinces across China, including Beijing, Guangdong, Sichuan, and Guizhou, as well as international runners from Kenya, the UK, and Ireland. A record-breaking 10,000 participants are expected, with 4,000 competing in the half marathon and 6,000 in the health run.

Under the theme "Scenic Three Rivers, Running Through Millennia," the marathon route has been meticulously designed to highlight Hechuan's unique "Three Rivers and Six Banks" landscape. The half marathon starts at the northeast gate of the Hechuan District People's Government, passing landmarks such as the Jialing River Nanping Bridge, Diaoyu City Avenue, and Dongdu Jialing River Bridge before concluding at People's Square. The health run route takes participants along Jiabin South Road to Dongjintuo Park and back, offering a shorter yet equally scenic experience.

Yuan Xiaoqin, Deputy District Mayor of Hechuan, emphasized the route’s carefully planned design, highlighting the Three Rivers' natural beauty and the rich historical heritage of Diaoyu City and Wenfeng Ancient Street. The course is wide and flat, meeting the highest standards for marathon events, with elevation differences kept within 50 meters.

This year’s event also prioritizes enhancing the runner experience through improved services and cultural integration. Medical support will be expanded, with additional stations and emergency equipment along the route. Runners will also get a taste of Hechuan, with local delicacies and beverages available at supply points. Cultural elements, such as a city gate-opening ceremony and themed finisher medals, will further immerse participants in Hechuan’s history and traditions.

Wu Daming, a Standing Committee Member of the CPC Hechuan District Committee, highlighted the marathon’s broader significance in promoting the integration of culture, sports, and tourism. “The marathon is not just a race but a platform to drive economic growth and cultural exchange,” he said.
