Chongqing - On April 12, thousands of drones lit up the night sky over Chongqing's Nan'an District, marking the start of a dazzling new regular attraction for the 8D mountain megacity.
The "Glamorous Chongqing, Changan Partnership" drone light show, held at the Changjiahui Shopping Park, is set to become a signature spectacle, blending technology, culture, and tourism.
As one of China's first low-altitude economy demonstration zones, Chongqing has rapidly developed innovative industries such as drone performances. Following the viral success of its drone show during the CCTV 2025 Spring Festival Gala, the city is now partnering with automaker Changan to turn these displays into a permanent fixture. The goal is to cement Chongqing's reputation as a "drone light show capital" and enhance its futuristic, cyberpunk image as a "multi-dimensional mountain metropolis."
Drones transformed into twinkling stars during the trial show, forming dynamic visuals against the night sky. The display began with the "Glamorous Chongqing" logo, followed by intricate formations of traditional stilt houses - a nod to the city's ancient architectural heritage. Next came a playful rendition of Chongqing's iconic spicy noodles, with drones mimicking swirling chili oil and peppercorns. The Chongqing influencer, Ryan, was astonished by the control of the drones: "It's all about precision and sophistication."

The show also highlighted Chang'an's electric vehicle lineup, with sleek drone formations showcasing the brand's cutting-edge designs. Another breathtaking moment featured the city flower, the camellia, blooming mid-air before scattering petals—a fusion of nature and technology. "This is where industry meets imagination," said Alex, Canadian anchor of WCICO.
This trial run is just the beginning. Starting soon, the drone shows will be held every Saturday and during major holidays like Spring Festival, National Day, and Mid-Autumn Festival, totaling around 90 performances annually. Fresh themes and patterns will be introduced each month, with prime viewing spots including Chaotianmen, Jiangbeizui, and Nanbin Road.
