Chongqing — On January 28, the Fourth Session of the Sixth Chongqing Municipal People’s Congress opened. Consuls general in Chongqing attended the meeting and heard the municipal government’s work report, reflecting global attention on the city’s development.
Eva Yi-Hua Yu, Consul General of Canada in Chongqing, said the city is widely recognized for its strong advanced manufacturing base and innovation-driven growth. She expressed hope for further strengthening cooperation and pragmatically advancing collaboration between Canada and Chongqing, particularly in areas aligned with industrial upgrading and technological innovation.
Bui Nguyen Long, Consul General of Vietnam in Chongqing, noted that Vietnam is Chongqing’s largest trading partner among ASEAN countries. Despite a complex global economic environment, he said bilateral trade has maintained double-digit growth, reflecting strong economic complementarity and resilient cooperation.
Looking ahead to 2026, the Consul General of Vietnam in Chongqing will focus on three key areas: enhancing institutional exchanges and mutual trust, expanding trade and investment, and deepening cultural, tourism, and educational collaboration. These efforts aim to ensure more citizens can enjoy the opportunities, landscapes, and cuisines of both regions.
