By CHANG CHEN|Mar 04,2026

Chongqing - As China's 2026 "Two Sessions" get underway, international voices are sharing their perspectives on the country through the #WhyChina campaign launched by the Western China International Communication Organization. The online initiative, hosted on global social media platforms such as Facebook and X, invites foreign scholars, global key opinion leaders (KOLs), community opinion leaders (COLs), and overseas netizens to share their experiences with China.

Through surveys, topic discussions, and short-video submissions, the campaign explores questions such as why people are interested in China, why they choose Chinese products, and why they decide to travel, live, study, work, or invest in the country. The stories collected through the campaign will be presented in a series of short videos featured in this report. Participants share a wide range of personal experiences, from praising China’s safety when traveling to highlighting the affordability and quality of Chinese products.

Canadian international commentator Daniel Dumbrill, who has lived in China for 18 years. Over the years, he has witnessed the country's rapid development — from the expansion of high-speed rail networks to the growing efficiency of everyday life.

Dumbrill has also built his own career in China, launching a craft beer brand in Shenzhen and opening a gym in Chongqing, where he now lives. Reflecting on his experience, he highlights the safety, convenience, and opportunities that have shaped his life in the country.

But rather than asking people to take his word for it, Dumbrill encourages them to see China for themselves. "Don't just take my word for it — come and see it for yourself, experience it yourself, and draw your own conclusions," he said.
