Hangzhou — More than 1,700 book titles from Chongqing will be showcased at the 34th National Book Expo, which will be held from July 24 to 27 at the Hangzhou International Expo Center in Zhejiang Province.

Organized by the National Press and Publication Administration and hosted by the People's Government of Zhejiang Province and the Hangzhou Municipal People's Government, the annual expo is one of China's largest publishing events, bringing together publishers, authors and readers from across the country.

The Chongqing pavilion is organized under the guidance of the Publicity Department of the CPC Chongqing Municipal Committee and the Chongqing Municipal Press and Publication Bureau. More than 10,000 copies, representing over 1,700 book titles published in Chongqing, will be on display.

Located at Booth B08 in Hall B, the 450-square-meter pavilion draws inspiration from Chongqing's mountainous landscape. Architectural features such as stepped streets, hillsides, alleys and bridges are incorporated into the exhibition through tiered bookshelves, stepped walkways and interactive displays, creating an immersive reading space for visitors.

The exhibition will feature publications covering literature, philosophy, science, the social sciences, children's literature and general interest. The collection includes recently published works, bestselling books and long-selling titles from Chongqing publishers.

The pavilion will also introduce local reading initiatives designed to promote reading through digital technology and cultural engagement. Among them is Ants Books Quest, an interactive reading program that combines literature with Chongqing's place names and local history through themed exhibitions and a WeChat mini-program, allowing visitors to discover books while exploring the city's cultural heritage.

Nearly 20 reading promotion events are planned during the four-day expo, including author talks, book signings, new book launches and panel discussions. Organizers will also incorporate livestreaming and interactive digital technologies to expand participation both at the venue and online.

Featured speakers include writer He Jianming, book reviewer and veteran journalist Shan Shibing, and writers Chen Jian and Lei Mi, who will participate in author talks, book signings and discussions on contemporary Chinese literature during the expo.

In addition to printed books, the Chongqing pavilion will showcase digital publishing projects, including audiobooks, digital games and short-form audiovisual productions. Cultural and creative products inspired by the Dazu Rock Carvings, a UNESCO World Heritage Site in Chongqing, will also be exhibited, reflecting the integration of traditional publishing with digital media.

Visitors will also be able to explore cultural and creative products alongside the book displays. During the expo, Chongqing Publishing House will offer a 50% discount on all books, as well as promotional offers on selected cultural products and publications.
