Chongqing - Starting August 21, Chongqing will add a permanent soundtrack to its skyline. The "Chongqing Night · Nanbin Concert" is launching as a weekly Friday fixture on the outdoor plaza of the Chongqing Planning Exhibition Hall, transforming a stretch of the Yangtze River waterfront into an open-air music stage. Organizers describe the series as an upgrade of Chongqing's night economy beyond passive sightseeing into participatory cultural consumption, pairing live music with riverside markets, intangible-heritage craft stalls, and street performances.

The August 21 debut plans to split the evening into two distinct halves. The Chongqing Symphony Orchestra anchors the "Classics" segment with works such as Lights of China, delivering high-art credibility against the natural amphitheater of the river gorge. The second half, titled "Sound Wave China · Original New Voice," marks a sharp pivot toward grassroots talent development. Curated in partnership with music incubator Yinlang Engine, the platform operates through a three-channel pipeline — open social recruitment, university competitions, and a nationwide song library — offering selected young artists full-chain support from vocal coaching to stage production.

But the most radical element of the series may be its open-door policy. Organizers have announced two parallel public calls: a global competition for an official "Chongqing Night" theme song, and an open-submission channel for amateur performers — folk musicians, intangible-cultural-heritage practitioners, or any group with a compelling act — to win a slot on the main stage. The initiative reflects a deliberate strategy to blur the line between audience and performer, a philosophy one organizer summarized as "everyone can create, everyone can take the stage."
