Villages Along the Yangtze River | Guardian of the "Snow Mountain Spirits"

By TIANYAO, NIU|Sep 02,2026

Chongqing — In Xiangguqing Village in northwestern Yunnan, China, generations of villagers have protected the "Snow Mountain Spirits" — the Yunnan snub-nosed monkeys. In 1995, Yu Jianhua gave up hunting and became a guardian of the Yunnan snub-nosed monkeys, serving as the first forest ranger in the nature reserve. In 2003, his son Yu Zhonghua was moved by his father's actions and took up the responsibility of protecting them. Two generations, one forest, and the same group of spirits. Today, let's step into Xiangguqing Village and listen to their story. (Source: Yunling Pioneer | English Version: Western China International Communication Organization)
