Dianjiang Peony Cultural Festival, after 19 successful sessions, has become a window for the world to understand the city and one of the city’s name cards in opening-up. The 20th Dianjiang Peony Cultural Festival (hereinafter referred to as the “Festival”) will start on March 29, aiming to attract the world’s attention again.

Themed “Visit Dianjiang for Natural Landscapes, Peonies and Healthcare”, the Festival will organize “one competition, one conference, one festival, one exhibition and one interaction”. Diversified and exciting activities keep on coming from March to May.

Major activity debuted

Dianjiang welcomed the 2019 “Shancheng Watch” Chongqing Dianjiang Half Marathon in this spring with blooming sea of flowers. Over 5,000 runners from China and other countries started their journey at 8:30 on March 24 in Nanyang Park. Encouraged by peonies beside the track, they run for medals with speed and passion.

Cultural elements in the Festival

Dianjiang enjoys a history of over 1,460 years, which brings it a rich cultural heritage, more than natural landscapes.

“One festival”—Opening Ceremony & Performance of the 20th Dianjiang Peony Cultural Festival will kick off on March 29, showing customs and special tourism of this city.

“One exhibition”—Peony-themed Exhibition of Chinese Traditional Calligraphy, Paintings and Photographs will be open to the public from March 29 to April 7. Artists from Painting and Calligraphy Academy of the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference and Xiesheng China will visit Dianjiang to write and draw peonies, showing the cultural features embedded in this Township of Painting and Calligraphy.

“One interaction”—Experience and interactive activities related to rural tourism last from March 1 to May 31. Tourists can enjoy the charming local cultures and special beauty of villages, through activities like admiring spring flowers and experiencing farm work.
