Chongqing - The New International Land-Sea Trade Corridor, or ILSTC, which is economical, efficient, convenient, green and safe, is to be built by 2025, according to a recent notice of National Development and Reform Commission to print and distribute the Master Plan of Western New International Land-Sea Trade Corridor.

By then, the container transportation volume of land-sea intermodal transportation will reach 500,000 Twenty-feet Equivalent Unit, or TEU, and the container handling capacity of Beibu Gulf Port in Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region and Yangpu Port in Hainan Province respectively 10 million and 5 million TEU.
Located in the hinterland of western China, ILSTC plays an essential strategic role in coordinated development, connecting the Silk Road Economic Belt in the north and the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road in the south and linking the Yangtze River Economic Belt. ILSTC is a joint effort of Singapore and China, to be specific, western Chinese provincial regions. It is also a program under the framework of the China-Singapore (Chongqing) Demonstration Initiative on Strategic Connectivity, the third government-to-government project between the two countries.
By 2020, several major railway and logistics hub projects will start construction, and Chongqing’s role as an inland international logistics distribution center will be played. The integration of Beibu Gulf Port and Yangpu Port will have initial effects, and the last mile for rail-sea intermodal transport and multimodal transport will be connected, the efficiency of customs clearance and logistics organization will be significantly improved. By then, the supporting role of ILSTC for the development of the western region is to demonstrate. The container transportation volume of rail-sea intermodal transportation will reach 100,000 TEU, and the container throughput of Guangxi Beibu Gulf Port and Hainan Yangpu Port 5 million and 1 million TEU respectively.
By 2025, the Beibu Gulf deep-water port will start to have international influence, and will establish the Beibu Gulf as a regional international gateway port and Yangpu Port as a regional international container hub. Moreover, Chongqing, as an inland port highland, will be completed.
By 2035, ILSTC will be fully completed and it will have world-class logistics service and efficiency of customs clearance.
