Liangping Laizi Luogu (Drum Performance) is the folk percussion music widely played in Liangping County, Chongqing. According to the records of Zhuzhi Poem, which is written by local Qing literati Lan Yiqing, Liangping Laizi Luogu was popular in Ming and Qing Dynasties. Its music is called Luogu Intro, represented by “Shiba Laizi”, including “Lao laizi”, “Hua laizi”, “yuan yang laizi”, “Diao laizi”, “gan laizi”, “zhonghulu” and “Nanshanwang”. During the performance, the performance team has to play 18 pieces without stopping, which consist of 6 groups with 3 pieces for each group. Each group contains the pieces starting with horse gong, cymbal, and a large gong. Hundreds of luogu intro such as “Jinyindeng”, “Jinyinhua” and “Hongxiuxie” are developed based on this. Its instruments are two-drum, horse gong, cymbal, large gong, hook gong, and small cymbal. The band consists of five performers. The horse gong and hook gong are played by one performer. Liangping Laizi Luogu is loud, passionate, rhythmic, thought-provoking, etc., usually played for folk activities such as festivals, opening ceremonies, birthday parties, weddings, and funerals. It is well received among people.
In May 2006, the State Council of the P.R.C. approved listing Liangping Laizi Luogu among the first batch of national intangible cultural heritage.
