On November 17 a science promotion project called Mountain City Academy of Sciences was launched by Chongqing Science and Technology Museum. In the theme, 'You Must Know' science courses and interest classes of cross-border science as well as diverse club activities, citizens of different ages were attracted to take part. This science popularization project encouraged citizens to learn from science, love science, and use science in their daily life.

Professor Xiang Zhongfu, a doctoral supervisor at Chongqing Jiaotong University and a principal researcher in bridge researching program in Chongqing, told us about the story behind thousands of bridges in the city, as well as scientific knowledge of bridge construction, structure, and maintenance. Xiang mentioned that the bridge is not only a transport facility but also a cultural carrier. Like the human body, it also has “life and death.” By saying this, he hoped that citizens would have a better understanding of bridges so that bridges are appropriately used and maintained.
Jia Yunjian, a professor and doctoral supervisor at Chongqing University, is a significant member of the editing team of White Paper on China’s 5G Network Technology Architecture. In the lecture, he focused on the hot topic of 5G technology to make the audience see the vital role of 5G in developing the smart industry, thus envisaging intelligent life to be brought by 5G in the near future.
In addition, interest classes and club activities held by the Academy were also eye-catching. In the interest class of science and cross-border art workshop, many young artists inspired young people’s imagination on the spot, including how to sculpture their bodies, how to make sound devices on-site, to design bridge pianos, and to feel the fish world with the background “sea symphony.” In the club activities, joined by Chongqing Jiaotong University, Chongqing Normal University, China Mobile and SEE Foundation Chongqing Project Center, Chongqing Science and Technology Museum organized exhibitions in the themes such as 5G Cruiser and Sturgeon, the Treasure in the Yangtze River. To match these exhibitions, themed activities followed, such as Send the Sturgeon Home, Underwater Archaeology, and Little Bridge Engineer. These activities were very popular among citizens, young and old.
Unlike before, the Mountain City Academy of Sciences project does not set an age limit for those who want to participate and will continue to be organized in 2020.
